Open Projector Night Spotlight from UICA: Jose Jimenez, People's Choice Award winner

Jose Jimenez short film Dreamer is the most recent Open Projector Night Peoples' Choice Award Winner. UICA sat down with the filmmaker to learn more about his work, inspiration, and future projects

Erin Schaenzer moved to Grand Rapids, MI five years ago to attend Kendall College of Art and Design and graduated with a BFA in Printmaking. Schaenzer’s poetic works are influenced by identity and relationships.

Madison Nicole May is a printmaker and interdisciplinary artist who graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design in 2016. In the spring of 2017 May opened Bend Gallery on the Avenue for the Arts specializing in affordable gallery space for emerging artists.

Kent Dobson climbed Mount Sinai in search of the God who had eluded him. Instead he got bitten by a camel. Dobson writes about his experiences of doubt, and the search for meaningful faith in his new book, Bitten by a Camel: Leaving Church, Finding God.

Lauren Witvoet is a self taught artist born and raised in Grand Rapids. Witvoet is fascinated and most inspired by the clothing designs out of those campy teen movies from the 1980’s and early 90’s. Witvoet loves a good bright colored bold print.

Nick Castillon is an artist living in Grand Rapids. Castillon's work is eclectic and ambitious large-scale multi-dimensional mixed media paintings.

Cultura Collective's exhibition "Documented/Undocumentado" stood as a testament to Roosevelt Park residents affected by development.

"They said it couldn't be done, so I did it," states "Lux Maximus" creator Daniel Oropeza of his signature process of fusing glass with metal to create sculptures that are partially translucent.
