Determined by public vote

This summer, Grand Rapids residents have been eagerly adding their own versions of what there is to love about summer to our Picturesque gallery, Summer Lovin'. With just over 100 photos already submitted and a goal of 150 photos by the end of July, there are some themes already emerging.
Rapidians are capturing children enjoying the summer fun, sunsets and -not surprisingly- many images with water as the theme. Thirty-nine of the currently 101 photos include beach scenes, sprinklers, pools or anything having to do with refreshing water fun on these hot summer days.
With the gallery closing on August 2, there are still two weeks to get in the running by adding your own photos to the gallery. Capture your favorite moments of summer and upload those photos to the gallery by signing in with your user account and clicking "submit your own." Your photo will then be a part of the gallery and open for votes. The winning photo will be featured in the Sunday print edition of The Grand Rapids Press, and receive a Rapidian swag bag. Photographers range anywhere from professionals to amateurs to Instagramers, so don't be shy.
There are two weeks left for our readers to determine the winning photo by voting for what they see as the best example of Summer Lovin' in the gallery. Votes are cast along the right-hand side of each photo through Facebook likes, tweets, comments, and "votes up." Any of these counts as a vote towards a viewer's favorites. At this point, with with no photos taking the lead for votes, the winner truly is in the hands of our readers, and anyone could still win. So be sure to vote for your own favorites, as the winner is determined solely by the votes of our readers!
The second contest happens on MLive's pages: photos highlighted each day provide a chance for viewers to create captions for each photo. What do you think is happening in the photo? How would you give words to the image? It can be funny, insightful, or descriptive... let the photos inspire you and add your own thoughts. Each caption submitted qualifies as an entry and a chance to win an MLive swag bag.
When it's all said and done at the end of the month, we'll tally up the votes and reveal the winning Rapidian photo in a Sunday print edition of The Grand Rapids Press. The best caption for that winning photo will then be selected as the MLive winner.
