THE FEED
I admit it: I am a softie for the holiday season.
Some years, it takes me longer to get into the spirit, as it did this year. But Sunday night, driving through town and peeking at all the magical twinkles of Christmas trees in homes in our Grand Rapids neighborhoods, I once again got a little teary-eyed. (I know. I warned you that I'm a softie.)
One of the joys of this holiday season, along with enchanting lights and decorations, is that we make time for family and friends. The stress of getting ready for all those gatherings can be overwhelming when we let ourselves get too worried about everything being just right. But when all the preparations are done, the gifts are wrapped, the lists checked off and checked twice... we relax and surround ourselves with loved ones. Traditional foods and activities fill our moments, leaving behind the mundane everyday in search of a special memory to be made with family, significant other or children. We may even (gasp!) walk away from social media for a day or two.
Here at The Rapidian, you may also notice that things slow down as our small staff takes a little time away. We love our Rapidian community, and we look forward to seeing you again on the other side of Christmas day. In the meantime, go make your own memories: get duped into a "this isn't like the others" fruitcake, light a candle, or opt for Chinese food. Whether you're following tradition or creating your own style of celebrations, we hope you are able to do it with those near and dear.
Happy holidays, to each and every one of our Rapidian citizens. We are so thankful you're here.
Now go. Make merry.
