- World Refugee Day bio: That Wah updated
On Sunday, October 1, The GAAH Press Club visited ArtPrize and each wrote a review of a work of art that they found particularly interesting. The following is Avelycia O's review of an artwork.
At the Women's City Club, there was a sculpture made by Mark Rumsey. The title of his artwork is "The Sky is Not Falling." The paper forms into a wavy sky. The sounds of paper sound like rain. Also, the sculpture fills up the entire ceiling.
I think the sculpture was art because [of] how he put the paper in different positions and how he folded the paper. I like "The Sky is Not Falling" because [of] how he named the sculpture to fit how it looks.
The GAAH Press Club, a program of the Cook Arts Center, provides youth in the Grandville Avenue neighborhood with the opportunity to find, develop and share their creative voices. Being a member of the Press Club not only empowers youth by helping them develop their sense of self but also encourages them to become creative problem solvers, enhance communication skills and increase their chances of continuing on to higher education. Through the Press Club, neighborhood youth can also raise awareness about local events and happenings that are important to members of the local community.
