Each week the Volunteer Center highlights an exciting skills-based volunteer (SBV) opportunity found on our Volunteer Solutions website. This week's SBV opportunity comes from Seidman Boys & Girls Club:

This opportunity offers volunteers a chance to practice leadership skills while having fun with kids.  The Seidman Boys & Girls Club has a long tradition of reaching youth through athletic and recreational activities. The Club welcomes caring adults to become part of this great endeavor in one or both of two ways. For a lower commitment, volunteers can come to the center and participate with youth in gym (or outdoor, in the summer) activities like basketball and dodgeball, maintaining order and helping young people learn skills in an informal setting. Volunteers wishing to make a significant and sustained commitment may prefer to help coach a Seidman Club team ~ Dads are welcome.

Volunteers must pass appropriate background checks.

Heart of West Michigan United Way

As a long-time community leader, Heart of West Michigan United Way collaborates with other organizations throughout West Michigan to advance the common good - that is, to direct change and create opportunities for a good life for all who live here. We focus our efforts in three critical areas: education, income and health, which are the building blocks to a successful life. A quality education that leads to a stable job, enough to support a family through retirement, with good health at every stage. Our goal is to work toward long-lasting changes that truly make an impact. So while we support those who have fallen on hard times, we also work to identify the root causes of problems. Then we build preventative systems that keep those problems from happening in the first place.
