Even two weeks after the 7.3 earthquake that flattened Port-au-Prince, the shocking images coming in from Haiti still seem seared on our minds. Thousands dead, thousands more homeless, hungry and thirsty. In the face of such devastation, what can you do?
What you can do is simple, Grand Rapids: rock out. This Thursday, January 28th, local musicans are playing a Haiti Benefit Concert at the Intersection, with all proceeds going towards the Red Cross International Response Fund, which is helping to provide food, water, shelter and more as we speak to the recovering population in Haiti.
Here’s the breakdown:
VIP Reception: 5-7pm ($20.00 donation per person) — Mingle with media celebrities, performers, and local dignitaries
Concert: Starts at 7:00 PM ($10.00 donation per person)
LINE-UP INCLUDES:
Jimmy Stagger
Donald Kinsey Band (former guitarist/songwriter with Bob Marley and Peter Tosh)
Ray White (former guitarist with Frank Zappa) and his all-star band
Heat
Kyle Gifford and Jessica Andrus
Jason Eller
(other acts to be announced)
All proceeds to benefit the Red Cross International Response Fund.
So rock out for the Red Cross! See you there!
Since it began on February 23, 1917, the American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids has empowered ordinary people to perform extraordinary acts in emergency situations. We train. We mobilize. We connect donors and volunteers to those in urgent need of a helping hand. Whether it is a hurricane or a heart attack; a call for blood or a call for help, the American Red Cross is there.
