On Thursday, August 21, Friends of Grand Rapids Parks (FGRP) will host its fourth annual Green Gala event to generate awareness of about its organization, what new things are in store for the future and celebrate another successful year of city park improvement. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Founded in 2008, FGRP continues to work to "protect, enhance and expand the City’s parks and public spaces." In order for them to continue bringing community members and partners together for park improvements, fundraising events like the Green Gala are held.

FGRP is using a paperless ticket system, so tickets will be under attendee names at the registration table for those who purchased online, are a sponsor or reserved a ticket. The registration table will be located at 634 Front Ave NW, in front of the Plante Moran and Christman Co. building.

Parking will be available in the two surface lots directly across the street from building. Those arriving by foot or bikecan visit the registration table first. There is covered parking for bikes inside the event for those with a ticket.

Each guest will receive a free drink ticket for a signature cocktail, beer or Michigan wine. At 7:30 p.m., a welcome annoucement will be made and dinner will be served. Guests will enjoy a silent auction, raffle and music by Fauxgrass and Cabildo.

The Green Gala itself, like the organization, is committed to "going green." All cups, plates, napkins and food at this event are provided for guests, but FGRP is asking attendees to do their part by reusing materials and appropriately disposing of waste to help keep the event more sustainable. Last year's event received an A++ rating by Organicycle and produced less than one bag of trash for the landfill.

More information about the event can be found on the Green Gala website.Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased here. More information about Friends of Grand Rapids Parks can be found on their website.
