At approximately 11pm Thursday evening a number of emergency vehicles arrived in the Fulton Heights neighborhood for a house fire at 127 Mayfield Ave NE, on the west side of the street.

Victims were pulled from the house, and a large group of Grand Rapids Fire Department firefighters and EMTs gathered in front of the house, both fighting the fire and administering medical care.

It appears that the fire caused one fatality and an infant, suffering from smoke inhalation, has been transported to the hospital. There is no indication as to the cause of the fire at this point. Neighbors are cautious about burning embers.

As of 12:30am Consumers Energy has arrived on the scene to help prevent further spread of the fire and additional relief vehicles are en route.

My condolences to the family. I really hope that baby pulls through!

Thanks for being on the scene, Adam and Erika!

This is terrible! My condolences as well. Words are not enough this morning.

I'm in the next neighborhood over in Midtown. Please keep us neighbors updated if there's anything we can do or provide for the family.
