The Rapidian Home

Drew Storey: In Memoriam

Drew with daughter TaylorWe are raising money for the family of our friend and coworker, Drew Storey, who suddenly passed away in October.

Drew attended a public meeting about The Rapidian on a whim but became one of the project's earliest and strongest volunteers. He was a vital member of the steering committee and the calm leader of the editorial committee. Drew's quiet dedication to free speech and community expression became the rock on which much of The Rapidian's philosophy is based.

In late September, he came on as The Rapidian's first content facilitator. He had many of the responsibilities typically assigned to an editor - looking over pieces, curating the site's front page, and mentoring new reporters. Drew was driven by his passion for civic engagement and took practical steps to cultivate that experience for Rapidian reporters.

On staff, Drew was always pushing for the next big step, regardless of how small we were. "That's not a bad problem to have," he'd say in the face of a thousand risks, eventualities and possibilities. Staff remember him for his dedication to a newborn community outlet. Reporters remember him for his attentiveness.

If you have been touched by Drew's work on The Rapidian, please consider chipping in and/or embedding this widget on your own page.
