JUST IN TIME FOR MICHIGAN’S PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY,
MPLP WELCOMES TWO OF NATION’S TOP POLITICAL OBSERVERS

The two gatherings number among Michigan’s largest bipartisan events, together drawing more than 1,000 MPLP supporters. The dinner takes place on Thursday, Feb. 23 at Laurel Manor Banquet and Conference Center in Livonia. Breakfast is Friday, Feb. 24 at the JW Marriott in Grand Rapids.

MPLP, a program of the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research in MSU’s College of Social Science, was founded in 1992. Since then, 24 men and women – 12 Republicans and 12 Democrats – have been annually selected for the fellowships each valued at $12,000.
The Fellowships offer specialized training in public policy, campaign management and personal leadership. To date, more than 500 people from all professions and from all regions of the state.
Nearly half have served in appointed or elected positions. Currently, 14 MPLP alumni serve in the Michigan House, a record for the 10-month MPLP.
Robinson has spent nearly three decades at The Washington Post as city hall reporter, city editor, foreign correspondent in Buenos Aires and London, editor of the paper’s Style section and most recently, twice-a-week columnist. He contributes to the PostPartisan blog and is a commentator over MSNBC.
Fleischer was the primary spokesman for President George W. Bush and delivered the daily White House briefings from 2001 to 2003. He was on duty in that role as the president and the nation responded to the horror of Sept. 11, 2001. Fleischer, president of his own sports communication company, is a CNN contributor.
Both have Michigan ties. Robinson is a University of Michigan graduate and former Michigan Daily newspaper co-editor. Fleischer lived and worked in Michigan on the campaign of former U.S. Rep. Jim Dunn.
