To determine whether one could ever be too old to paint, Rickie V. Anderson—a 41 year-old currently studying for a BA in Studio Art with his Minor in art history. Anderson is currently studying at Aquinas college—a small private college in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Despite considerable technical ability in his pieces, Anderson only found himself working in art since 2012. This excursion into the world of art stemmed from humble beginnings as an elective choice at the Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) where Anderson began his studies in General Education. Unaware of his raw talent as an artist, it was through a side comment from an instructor that Anderson realised that he had a ‘natural eye for composition’ which was a surprise given that he had only been drawing for a few months. What is unsurprising is that given this encounter Anderson was encouraged to take up a Bachelors degree in Art at Aquinas.
