ArtPrize 2013

Immediately when you enter this lovely restaurant, you look to the right and see eight wonderful works of art. The subject matter of this collection certainly has diversity. There are abstracts, landscapes, still lives, portraits, and animal paintings. The pieces near the front window have beautiful natural lighting.

This lighting is perfect for one piece in particular called Poppies by Julie McLellan (vote: 55016). It is a complex piece is composed of 17 canvases of all different shapes and sizes. All make up one large oil painting of Red Poppies. The flowers on this artwork jump out at you, not because the canvas is raised, but because the red color of the flowers were so brilliantly contrasted by a light blue highlight and green back ground. That color combinations created a split complimentary color scheme that is very pleasing to the eye. This stunning piece is reminiscent of Monet who also painted poppies, and Van Gogh because of the vivid brush marks. I can definitely say she has my vote!

Overall, One Trick Pony is a pleasant, quiet setting to enjoy great food and fantastic art.
