Pitch:

As the heat rolls in and kids settle into their summer routines, Kids’ Food Basket is striving to ensure that their routine of enjoying an evening meal every day does not change!

Most people who know about Kids’ Food Basket know that we serve sack suppers to elementary children during the school year.  With daily visits to 29 schools throughout the greater Grand Rapids area, KFB was able to serve over half a million sack suppers during the 2010-2011 school year.

What people may not realize is that Kids’ Food Basket also has a flourishing summer program covering various school, church, and Parks & Recreation programs throughout the city.  The summer sites target the same children as are served in the schools during the regular school year.  Starting today, KFB will be serving meals at 29 summer locations in order to continue reaching children beyond the regular school months.  In the first week of the summer program, KFB will reach 1,418 children per day, but those numbers could rise to as high as 2,500 as the summer continues.

The summer program ensures that KFB remains “up and running” and attacking childhood hunger throughout the entire year.  Volunteers continue to flow in from Monday to Friday during the summer to help pack suppers.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact KFB at (616) 235-4532 or [email protected].
