United Way's NextGen group is hosting Hooky Day 2 on Friday June 10, 2011. Hooky Day 2 will involve three separate locations around West Michigan – the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans (8am-12pm or 1pm-5pm), Feeding American West Michigan (9am-1pm) and the Ronald McDonald House (1:30pm-6:30pm).
Anyone looking to get involved should e-mail [email protected]. We're actively seeking volunteers for the event.
At the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, more than 100 Next Gen volunteers will build and clean raised garden beds used by Veterans. At Feeding America West Michigan, volunteers will pick produce to be distributed throughout West Michigan. And, at the Ronald McDonald House, volunteers will cook dinner for more than 25 children and families seeking treatment for serious illnesses.
NextGen was awarded $2,500 from The Home Depot Foundation to help make the Veteran’s Home event possible. The 2011 Community Impact Grant will be used to purchase building materials for the Veteran’s Home and NextGen will partner with Erhardt Construction for design and layout assistance.
