GRAND RAPIDS – June 14, 2010
Lime Green Shirt LLC, an event promotions company based out of Grand Rapids, MI, has announced that “Hit the Decks” will be returning this year on a much larger scale. The festival, first organized in 2002, has had many homes over the years. Originally staged at Veteran’s Memorial, and later at Heartside Park, “Hit the Decks” will be held at Rosa Parks Circle this year in anticipation of a much larger crowd.

The Hit the Decks Electronic Music Festival will feature twelve DJs playing and performing multiple genres of electronic music alongside local artists in a fusion of music and art. This year’s event features Kikoman Ramirez; known by the stage name “Kikoman,” he is a long time performer of electronic music and owner of the Deepfried record label. “Kikoman has done so much for the electronic music scene in West Michigan over the years,” said Jonathan Phillips, founding member of Lime Green Shirt, LLC, “we are really excited to have someone with so much history in Grand Rapids involved with this event.”

This year’s festival won’t focus solely on the past, however. Up-and-comers Shane Bugai and Andrea “SuperDre” Wallace will also perform. Bugai recently signed with local label 6one6/Defrec. Wallace established her own label, Bass Candi, in 2009. “We really wanted to focus on the rich history of electronic music in Grand Rapids. We wanted to show how it started and how far we have come,” Phillips said of this year’s line-up. Other artists include Nesto, head of the local promotions company Sub-terran[e]an, and DJ Psycho, a local favorite from Flint and member of the Detroit Music Award-winning Detroit Techno Militia.
