The City of Grand Rapids is thrilled to invite you to the official kick-off event showcasing Plug-in Electric Vehicle (PEV) charging stations.

City Hall, Calder Plaza, Ottawa Avenue parking spaces
The City of Grand Rapids’ efforts to obtain electrical vehicle charging stations began as a regional collaboration through West Michigan Energy Group, which includes West Michigan Strategic Alliance (WMSA), Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center (MAREC), Grand Valley State University (GVSU), and the City of Grand Rapids.

Each charging station has two charging cords, providing the capacity to service two vehicles simultaneously. One charging cord is wired at 120V and fully recharges a car in eight hours. The other cord is wired at 240V and fully recharges a car in four hours.

The City treats these parking spaces as premium spaces and charges $0.50 per hour for spaces adjacent to the charging stations, in addition to the cost of parking. The meters at the on-street unit will also charge this $0.50 per hour fee and the normal hourly parking rate. Charges cover the cost of electricity used, annual fees for connectivity, and recovery of parking system costs to install the charging stations.
