DISTINGUISHED BUDGET PRESENTATION AWARD GIVEN TO GRAND RAPIDS’ BUDGET OFFICE
For the twenty-fourth consecutive year, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has presented a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to the City of Grand Rapids, Michigan for its annual budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2011. In order to receive this award, a governmental unit must publish a budget document that meets program criteria as a policy document, as an operations guide, as a financial plan, and as a communications device. The award represents a significant achievement by the City of Grand Rapids Budget Office. It reflects the commitment of the City and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
According to the GFOA, award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America. “Grand Rapids is fortunate to have the leadership of Chief Financial Officer Scott Buhrer, as well as the dedication and talent of his Budget team. I believe Grand Rapids goes above and beyond the criteria of this distinguished award in making the information contained in our fiscal plans transparent and accessible to the public,” stated City Manager Greg Sundstrom.
The award will be acknowledged at the February 21, 2012 Committee of the Whole meeting at 9:30am. '
