BEAT GOES ON music store on East Fulton gets new lease on life

The Beat Goes On music store on East Fulton was recently sold and will be getting a new lease on life The former record shop that fell into the hands of the Kent County Land Bank will be revitalized as a Gourmet Take Out and Catering Kitchen called Kangaroo Kitchen & Catering.
Renovation of the property will include a completely new façade and new roof, a gourmet take out front store and a commercial catering kitchen. Work is set to commence Monday, March 4th, 2013 with an opening set in early June. Construction will be performed by Roots Construction Company.
Born in New Zealand, Roman was raised in the Netherlands and Australia as the son of a noted patisserie chef. He studied at the Culinary Arts Institute of Tasmania, Australia and worked at the award-winning Australian restaurants, “Quil and Cane” in Launceton and “Michels” in Townsville.
Before he moved to Grand Rapids with his wife in 2010, Roman worked at a nonprofit animal shelter in Denver for four years and later revived his cooking career in St. Louis where he served as the private chef for NBA star Larry Hughes and NFL star Isaac Bruce.
Roman Petrack is excited to bringing a much needed food aspect to the East Fulton business district. He says Kangaroo Kitchen & Catering will be a Chef owned and driven gourmet take-out and catering kitchen. The take-out kitchen will offer an eclectic ever changing menu with flavors from around the globe yet with an emphasis on fresh, unprocessed, local produce. We will also have a variety of grab and go items available in our deli case including salads, desserts, baked goods and some prepared meals.
Our customized catering will focus on boutique-style service and quality of food. Whether a beautiful buffet or sit down dinner, unique corporate event, fun cocktail party or your special wedding day, you will get to work together with Chef Roman and his team to create an event specifically tailored for you. We certainly will strive to provide clients with creative ideas, great tasting food, artistic presentation and all with approachable, friendly service.
