Art.Downtown is April 13th from 6-11pm. Three free trolleys will take attendees throughout downtown, stopped at the locations listed below. It is expected that over 350 Grand Rapids artists will take place in this event, with over 30 locations. Help cover this event, as it launches our latest beat: the ART beat!

*We also have local photographers willing to take photos for your articles!*

Coverage is based on a first-come, first-served basis and all you have to do is comment below to reserve your artist or venue. If you have any questions, please contact Chelsea.

 

Stop 1#-GRAM-AVAILABLE

101 Monroe- The Grand Rapids Art Museum

Unwind during Friday Nights at GRAM with art, live music, and good conversation. Galleries are open late each Friday, and a cash bar is available in the Museum Lobby. Currently on view: Robert Rauschenberg exhibitions.

77 Monroe-Louis Benton Steakhouse/Leopard Lounge

Curator: Maranda Shear

An exhibition of new oil paintings from Loralee Grace exploring hue, saturation, brightness and temperature through informal diptychs, pairing a dominant hue landscape with a pure color study. Orange, Purple, Green, and White will be displayed.

17 Fountain- Kendall College of Art and Design

  • Main Gallery: Drawn: Kim Cridler and Jonathan Wahl.  Pattern. Ornamentation. Scale. Perception.
  • Gallery 114: MEGA, Second Annual Michigan Emerging Graduate Artists Juried Exhibition presented by Kendall College of Art and Design’s Masters of Fine Art Club.  This show features the work of Michigan’s MFA candidates and Bachelor of Fine Arts Graduating Seniors.  Created by students for students, MEGA presents a unique perspective on the work being created by the talented emerging artists in Michigan.  Juror: Mary Hood, Associate Professor of Art/Printmaking at Arizona State University.
  • Gallery 104: Furniture as Danger! Mind the furnishings!  Featuring the work of Ben Antaya, Rebecca DeGroot, Joshua McVety, and Amita Modzelewski
  • Atrium: On display for viewing and purchase will be a variety of student work in ceramics, photography, and illustration, along with other handmade crafts.

98 E. Fulton-West Michigan Center for Art and Technology:

Curator: Georgia Taylor

Local artists, Georgia Taylor, Moises Rojo, and Adam Wolgamott join with the Kendall Painting Club to bring a diverse and eclectic mix of visual art for Art. Downtown. The Kendall Painting Club includes 15 artists whose body of artwork focuses on the uses, techniques and manipulation of wet media. Content varies with each individual artist. An array of styles, mediums, and themes will be displayed showcasing the broad talent of this unique group of dedicated artists. This special collaboration will surely please your visual senses!

  • 12 concluding projects distinctive to each student's style and inspirations. The show establishes that design isn't all about formal training. It's about generating ideas, creating connections, and inspiring an audience to REACT

9 Jefferson- Free Radical Gallery hosted by Rapid Growth Media

Featuring artists Sierra Cole, Alicia Wierschke, Gloria Kirk-Hanna, Kyle Schroeder and Ashley Lieber. Works on display span a variety of media and subject matter.

40 South Division- Free Radical GalleryCurators: Hunter Bridwell and Amanda CarmerThis show features artists who utilize photographs, video installation, digital projection, collage, and woven text to explore the visceral embodiment of unnamable, unknowable external forces working their magic in our daily lives.  Artists featured include: Hunter Bridwell, Amanda Carmer, Trevor Dobiàŝ, Annie DeYoung, Lucas Schurkamp, Stacy Kline and Will Olson.

 

41 Sheldon- Compass and Artprize (window only)·Video Installation featuring Compass College of Cinematic Arts experimental video shorts.·Systems of Seeing: Work by a group of KCAD Drawing II Students exploring mark-making and color to describe their own interpretations of natural systems.  Curator: Taylor Greenfield

Heartside Gallery and Studio will be hosting 4 on-site working artists and fresh works of art from 48 Heartside artists. New works will include coffee mugs, gallery t-shirts, handmade clay masks, raw and intuitive paintings, new school drawings, hand-carved puppets and walking sticks, weavings, handmade jewelry and more!

Student artists from 5 different colleges and universities, local artists, actors, and performers enact a narrative inspired by the building’s history throughout the space. Written by Austin Bunn, this performance is unlike a traditional play and viewers will be able to experience the performance at their own pace and in their own order, or through random encounters.
