2013 -2014 Mayor’s Youth Council Introduced
WHO: Mayor’s Youth Council of the office of Our Community’s Children
WHAT: Introduced to the City Commission
WHEN: Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. – Grand Rapids City Hall - 300 Monroe Ave.; 9th floor, City Commission Chambers
WHY: The 2013 – 2014 Mayor’s Youth Council will be introduced to the City Commission during the Committee of the Whole. This year marks the 15th year of the program which provides a hands-on, real-life experience into the inner- workings of city government. Immediately following the introduction, the Mayor’s Youth Council will spend the day at City Hall discovering how municipalities function.
This year’s council consists of 18 students who live in Grand Rapids and represent 8 local high schools. They will serve a 1 year term and be a voice to city officials on issues affecting teens. They meet monthly with the Mayor, participate in community service projects and field trips, and facilitate the annual KidSpeak® youth forum.
