If you enjoy Giant Puppet Heads, Crazy Costumes, Bands that play Reggae music, and Parades that celebrate Creativity, then you must not miss the Arts in Sustainability Parade on Saturday, September 5 at 12noon and 4pm. Grand Rapids artist, Kelly Allen, organized several local artist to create floats, time machines, and imaginative costumes for this event. This event coincides with the Mini Maker Faire that is being held at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. The main focus of the parade is to show how artists recycle and reuse materials to create something new and artistic. Goodwill donated materials for this event and the artists ran with it. Remeber all of those old VHS tapes? One artist is using hundreds of old tapes and creating a tunnel of sorts for the parade. Another artist created Large Ancient Bird Women figurines in honor of the paleolithic artifacts found of bird like women. Kelly Allen created her own paper mache head of Winnifred the WiseMaker Goddess in honor of her non-profit organization, WiseMaker Creative Reuse Store and Studio.
