West Michigan College Students to Face Off
in Opera Competition, This Sunday, April 22

GRAND RAPIDS – Nine West Michigan vocal students will sing their hearts out on April 22, during the final round of Opera Grand Rapids’ annual Vocal Competition. The competition concert is free and open to public, and will take place at 7pm, Sunday, April 22, at Kretschmer Recital Hall, on the campus of Aquinas College, 1607 Robinson Rd, Grand Rapids, MI.

The Opera Grand Rapids Collegiate Vocal Competition provides an opportunity for the finest student vocalists being trained full-time at Greater Grand Rapids area colleges and universities to compete in a professional competition and to be recognized for excellence by a professional opera company. Opera Grand Rapids is West Michigan’s only professional opera company, and is the longest running opera company in Michigan.

The contestants for the final round concert are:
Alison Bieber (Grand Rapids Community College)
Jenna Buck (Hope College)
Andrea Fleming (Grand Valley State University)
Haley Hodges (Hope College)
Zack Lutes (Grand Rapids Community College)
Caitlin McDougall (Hope College)
William Perry Reed (Grand Rapids Community College)
Madison Roester (Grand Rapids Community College)
Brent Smith (Hope College)

Each one of the finalists passed an initial round of the competition held earlier this year. During the competition, each student will perform operatic arias of their choice with piano accompaniment. A panel of professional judges will vote on the performances, and offer feedback to the contestants.

A light reception with the students will follow the concert.
