In this week’s segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase Megan Benton, Licensing Supervisor from Wellspring Lutheran Services, discusses programs providing resources to seniors, foster care providers, transitioning families, and individuals seeking rehabilitation through therapy.
Wellspring has locations across Michigan, including a child and family services clinic in Kentwood. Much of Wellspring's approach to family services revolves around education and training for prospective foster parents, families seeking alternatives to violent confrontations in the household, and working with families to help them overcome their unique challenges.
The Families Together Building Solutions program is an in-house, low-impact family support program designed to enhance the quality of life for families by focusing on the unique strengths within their household. For more immediate needs, Family Preservation programs provide advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, and parenting skills training. Advanced Impact connects families referred by Child Protective Services with master's-level therapists to reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect. Wellspring's Pailalen Parent Training is a 9-week violence prevention parent training course that focuses on positive discipline methods, improved communication between parents and children, providing a healthy and safe environment, community building, and support to prevent drug use and gang involvement.
For individuals wishing to provide foster care, Wellspring offers foster care orientation and trainings, support throughout the foster care licensing process, and connecting families to a child in need of care. For those wishing to get involved, but aren't ready for the commitment of being a foster care provider, Wellspring offers community members opportunities to participate in activities, beautification projects, small group leadership and mentorship, transportation assistance as well as supply drives and financial support.
