They are a community organizer working with Grand Rapids Area Mutual Aid Network, Together We Are Safe, the Grand Rapids Area Tenant Union, Defund the GRPD, Camp ARYV, Movimiento Cosecha GR, GR Rapid Response to ICE, and national organizer DiDi Delgado and Done For DiDi. Ames has written poems and nonfiction appearing in Voices, Peninsula Poets, The 3288 Review, and Parabola magazines. Their chapbook, The One Inside An Onion, won the Celery City Chapbook Contest in 2016 and was published by the same.
