With the seasons slowly changing, root crops like potatoes, carrots and beets are available right alongside summer corn, peaches and eggplant.

August might be the perfect time to visit the market—fall crops are coming into season, and summer crops are still available. Consider visiting the market and picking up summer squash and cucumbers, or stopping by for some conversation. The market can be a great place to learn about how to use those veggies you're buying.

Events at the market:

Downtown Market: During "Kids at the Market" on August 6, kids can learn about how to make healthy snacks from 10 a.m.-noon.  On August 10, chef Abby Therrein will demonstrate a beet-centered beverage and vegetarian salad. 

Ada Village Market: The theme this week for "Kids at the Market" is "Young Rembrants," from 1-4 p.m.

Produce at the Market:
With hints of fall in the air, consider looking for root crops like potatoes, newly in at the market. Beets and multi-colored carrots are also in. Spinach is making an appearance alongside eggplants and a variety of sweet and hot peppers. Greens are still growing, and stone fruits are in full swing, including a variety of peaches and plums. Consider picking some up for canning or enjoying with lunch.
