The Comstock Park Rotary Club entered the competition for The Salvation Army's "Golden Kettle" Award, as members of the club rang bells at the Produce side door of the Alpine Street Walmart location throughout Thursday. The first shift started at 11:00 am, and upcon learning about the Golden Kettle standings, the Rotarians were confident that his club could take the lead. Members of Comstock Rotary will need to do some more work, as their daily earnings of $413 falls short of the lead that was established last weekend by the Golden "K" Kiwanis Club.
The standings today - with only 3 days of bell ringing remaining - shows that the four clubs competing for the prize are as follows:
1. Golden "K" Kiwanis Club - $1,463
2. Grand Rapids Kiwanis Club - $654
3. Comstock Park Rotary Club - $413
4. Kentwood Rotary Club - $333
Golden "K" Kiwanis is sure to add to their lead, as they ring at JC Penney today. However, Kentwood Rotary will attempt to catch the leaders as they will ring again at Woodland Mall throughout Saturday.
However, results are sure to change dramatically following Monday and Tuesday, as The Salvation Army promotes the "Give Once - Bless Twice" days where all donations made on the last two shopping days will be matched. This doubling of income for any service club kettle can make a HUGE impact to the final tally towards the Golden Kettle Award. Because of this, all clubs are still in the running to earn the ultimate prize. Clubs are encouraged to sign up for more shifts at various locations, since all locations are available for volunteers on Monday and Tuesday! Just sign up at www.registertoring.com as you help us help others. And finally, any checks that club members want to donate - make sure to write "Golden Kettle" and your club name in the memo section of the check. The check can be dropped of at any Red Kettle location in the city!!!
