Rosa Parks Circle will be home to the 2012 Dozynki Festival- Polish Harvest Festival hosted by the Polish Heritage Society. The festival will open Friday, August 24 at 11 a.m. and run until Sunday, August 26 with free admission.
The event will feature live music, beer tents from places such as Little Warsaw and children’s tents with activities and food. Polish pottery and jewelry will also be available for sale.
“It’s very traditional and very authentic; our main tent is a cultural tent and it honors people-local, national and international people of Polish descent,” says Ruth Anne Lomas, first vice-president of the Polish Heritage Society.
Historical honoree for 2011 was Valeria Lipczynski who was included into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame.
Lipczynski was an early immigrant who helped establish Polish churches and social clubs. "She helped new Polish immigrants with language and health problems- anything she could,” says Lomas.
"The festival is sponsored by the city of Grand Rapids and is a long-standing joint venture with the city and the Polish Heritage Society,” adds Lomas.
