Heavy rains and snow melt caused the water levels of the Grand River to swell to just over twenty feet in Grand Rapids, Michigan during the last weekend of February 2018.
Cresting at 20.67 feet on Sunday, February 25. 2018, the Grand River was just under a foot from reaching the record flood level (21.9 feet) that occured in April, 2013.
Many areas upstream along the river were under water, but with upgrades to flood walls and lessons learned from the 2013 flood, the city was prepared.
