In this week’s segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase, Grand Rapids Economic Development Services Managing Director Kara Wood discusses the changes that have been made to our city’s parking and public transportation systems, in effect since September 1.
These changes are a part of the GR Forward Plan, and have been made to help alleviate traffic and parking downtown, especially in high-demand areas. While rates at downtown parking lots and meters have increased, services such as the free DASH shuttle have been expanded to help encourage citizens to ‘Park Once’ and seek alternative transportation while getting around downtown.
The City of Grand Rapids has also partnered with The Rapid to create a no-fare zone on the Silver Line, north of Wealthy Street.
Watch the NPO Showcase segment above to learn more about the recent changes to the parking system in downtown Grand Rapids. More information can also be found on the Parking Services Department page on the city’s website. Smartphone users can download GR Park or myStop, two new mobile apps, to get real-time information on parking and traveling downtown.
Check back next Wednesday for a new segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase.
