GRAND RAPIDS, MI – September 14, 2016 – Local First continues its monthly INsight Series in September. The series focuses on educating business owners and employees on implementing smart and sustainable business practices in the workplace. Each event highlights specific challenges that business owners face as well as the strategies they’ve used to overcome them. This month’s session is Creating a Culturally Competent Neighborhood Business.
The fourth INsight session will take place on Wednesday, September 21 at LINC Community Revitalization. Three women will share their story about how they built their business by understanding how cultural competence enhanced their workforce. Hear from Rebecca Smith from Better Life Bags, Jackie Victor from Avalon International Breads, and Nefertiti Harris from Textures by Nefertiti and learn how their businesses have been enriched by a diverse cultural landscape.
Thanks to a partnership with Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women (GROW), this INsight session will also host a makers’ market to showcase local crafters, artists, and creators. Attendees will have the opportunity to check out and purchase paintings, drawings, scarves, jewelry, and other hand-made items.
