INTERNSHIPS

The Rapidian is always looking for a few good interns. What we can't pay you in financial benefit, we make up for in college credit, an impressive addition to your resume, and a nice little portfolio of writing samples to show off.


The Rapidian is currently accepting internship applications, with 4-6 interns joining our team at a time. Send your resume, references, writing samples and letter of interest to i[email protected]Internships are open to anyone, not just college students, and either for or without college credit.

Please indicate which internship session you applying for when submitting your application. Duration of internship sessions is as follows:

Winter (Jan. - Apr.): 10-15 hours/week for 15 weeks. Winter internship deadlines are December 20.

Summer (May - Aug.): 15-20 hours/week for 12 weeks

Fall (Aug. - Dec.): 10-15 hours/week for 15 weeks

Politics Internship
Reports to: Managing Editor Kiran Sood Patel
Position type: Unpaid, can be done for college credit, year-long preferred
The Rapidian is seeking a Politics Intern that will have the following responsibilities:
  • Identify sectors of city policy and governance that are not well understood by local citizens
  • Create content geared towards building understanding of and engagement in city policy making
  • Create timely content that introduces community to city officials and staff, covers City, County and Planning Commission topics and assists local citizens in understanding how to become meaningfully engaged in building a better city
  • Other responsibilities as determined by supervisor
Qualifications:
  • A working knowledge of government and policy models- and ability to translate that world for the general reader
  • Leadership and time management skills
  • A good eye for important, timely content relating to local policy and governance
  • Strong writing abilities
  • Patient, inquisitive, and strong communication skills

Local Music Internship
Position type: Unpaid, can be done for college credit
The Rapidian is seeking a Local Music Intern that will have the following responsibilities:
  • Identify local musicians to profile for The Rapidian and WYCE
  • Create content geared towards building support for our local music community
  • Create timely content that introduces community to local musicians, music events and WYCE events in a "human interest" presentation of the community
  • Other responsibilities as determined by supervisors
Qualifications:
  • A familiarity with the local music scene and desire to tell the story of that community
  • Leadership and time management skills
  • A good eye for important, timely content relating to local music
  • Strong writing abilities
  • Patient, inquisitive, and strong communication skills

Local Art Internship

Reports to: Managing Editor Kiran Sood Patel
Position type: Unpaid, can be done for college credit

The Rapidian is seeking a Local Art Intern that will have the following responsibilities:

  • Identify interesting local galleries, artists and shows
  • Create content geared towards local art
  • Other responsibilities as determined by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • A working knowledge of current art trends, terms, and the art world- and ability to translate that world for the general reader
  • Strong editing experience
  • Leadership and time management skills
  • A good eye for important, timely content relating to local art
  • Strong writing abilities
  • Familiarity with Associated Press Style
  • Patient, inquisitive, and strong communication skills

Local Food & Breweries Internship

The Rapidian is seeking a Local Food & Breweries Intern that will have the following responsibilities:

  • Identify interesting local restaurants, local breweries, chefs, brewers, and food and beer organizations
  • Create content geared towards local food and beer
  • Other responsibilities as determined by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Strong editing experience
  • Leadership and time management skills
  • A good eye for important, timely content relating to local food
  • Strong writing abilities
  • Familiarity with Associated Press Style
  • Patient, inquisitive, and strong communication skills

 Content Internship

Reports to: Managing Editor Kiran Sood Patel
Position type: Unpaid internship; can be done for college credit

The Rapidian is seeking a content intern that will have the following responsibilities:

  • Coverage of immediately publishable assigned news stories
  • Create evergreen pieces to be published at The Rapidian’s discretion
  • Other responsibilities as determined by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Strong storytelling abilities
  • Familiarity with Associated Press style
  • Good eye for identifying stories and recognizing multiple facets and angles of each story
  • Inquisitive and curious about surroundings
  • Prior familiarity with Rapidian platform desired but not required

Content is not limited to written content, but may also include or exclusively be audio, video and photography.
