As a single mother, Hudsonville resident Holly Schultz struggled to make ends meet. Like many students, she came to Everest Institute-Grand Rapids with the goal of improving her life and gaining career skills to support her family. What separated her from her peers, however, was the sheer enthusiasm and dedication with which she approached her education.

Schultz enrolled in the dental assistant program, and immediately became immersed in both her studies and the Everest community.

“Holly wasn’t content to just excel in the classroom,” said Ruth Stewart, president of Everest Institute-Grand Rapids. “From the moment she stepped on campus, Holly gave back to both the community and her peers by tirelessly volunteering to help with school and community service events.”

Whether it was a clothing or food drive, or a classmate needing transportation to campus, Schultz always reached out to help, Stewart said.

In recognition of her efforts and personal accomplishments, Schultz is the winner of the Everest Institute-Grand Rapids 2012 Dream Award. The award recognizes one graduate who has completed a post-secondary education while overcoming extraordinary challenges.

“Holly is a shining example that by helping improve the lives of others, you also bring about positive changes in your own life,” Stewart said. “Her enthusiasm and positive attitude inspired her teachers, classmates and Everest staff, and we wish her continued success in fulfilling her education and career goals.”

Schultz is now employed as a dental assistant at Ottawa Smiles. She is currently planning her wedding and recently purchased a home. As a Dream Award winner, Schultz will receive a $2,500 Everest scholarship to pursue further education.
