Gala Retirement Celebration Announced For Award-Winning Grand Haven Teacher
High School Choral Alumni 1981 – 2012 to Perform

West Michigan – March 13, 2013 – For the first time ever, Grand Haven High School choir alumni from 1981-2012 will sing together at Muskegon’s historic Frauenthal Center for the Performing Arts in “An Evening with Shirley”. This celebrational concert honors the musical legacy of retiring choir director Shirley Lemon and her many award-winning choirs. Alumni from over three decades will be joined by many of Shirley’s music peers from her 35-year career, including mentors, student teachers, adjudicators, and more. The concert begins at 7:00 PM on Saturday, May 25, 2013. Tickets are priced from $5 to $25 and are on sale now at the Frauenthal box office and online at Star Tickets. The general public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Holiday Inn-Spring Lake hosts “Shirley’s Gala Reception” at 9:00 PM following the concert. Featuring musical entertainment, tasty food, and a cash bar, this is the perfect opportunity for friends, alumni, and the community to meet and mingle with Shirley. Cost is $20, cocktail attire is suggested, and space is limited. Tickets are now available in Grand Haven at Jumpin’ Java and the Bookman.

Proceeds from “An Evening With Shirley” and “Shirley’s Gala Reception” benefit the Grand Haven High School Choir Endowment Fund. Established at the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation in 2003 by retired GHAPS teacher Mary Jane Boettcher, this fund provides support in perpetuity to the various financial needs of the GHHS choral program.

The Lemon Retirement Celebration (LRC) is a series of events designed to celebrate the award-winning career of retiring GHHS choir teacher Shirley Lemon while raising money for future generations of singers. The Core Planning Team of the LRC is comprised of nine Grand Haven High School choir alumni who graduated between 1982 and 2007. The LRC Choir currently boasts 125 alumni/peer singers and is looking for more. Concert tickets are now on sale, and advertising opportunities for businesses and well-wishers are available.
