Fireside Poetry Series, Poetry Workshop on Sunday, March 22, 3-5 p.m.: “Sonnet, or Not?”
Phillip Sterling is back with the final workshop in the Fireside Poetry Series, "Sonnet, or Not?" While the sonnet is one of the most recognizable and widely practiced poetic forms, it is also one of the most variable and, consequently, mis-defined. This workshop will explore both traditional and contemporary sonnets, and then challenge participants to “make it new.”
This workshop is limited to 12 participants. The fee is $40 and you may sign up online through our Registration button, HERE; please note for which workshop you are registering in the "Message to Seller" field. You may also send a check to Great Lakes Commonwealth of Letters, 758 Wealthy St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503; or feel free to stop into our Writer's Hub Tuesday through Friday between 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. to pay in person. This workshop will be here at GLCL; there is parking in our lot, which is the second driveway behind our building, off of Eastern. There's also a public lot just a block west of here. Please contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions.
Phillip Sterling's most recent book is In Which Brief Stories Are Told, a collection of short fiction (published by Wayne State University Press). He is also the author of the poetry collection Mutual Shores and three chapbook-length series of poems (Significant Others, Quatrains, and Abeyance). Among his awards are an NEA Fellowship, two Fulbright Lectureships, and a P.E.N. Syndicated Fiction Award. During August 2014, he served as artist-in-residence on Isle Royale, as part of the National Park Service residency program.
