Downtown neighbors work together to clean up 10,000 lbs of garbage and invest in the cities West Side!

 

WHAT:            Downtown neighbors are teaming up on Saturday May 19, to pick-up the trash left behind the cities’ West Side during the long winter months. The fourth annual West Side Community Clean Up will mobilize volunteers and arm them with maps, trash bags and rubber gloves for the three hour power cleanup, which will include tending the West Side’s environmental rain gardens, and using smart phones to document and report graffiti and maintenance issues to the City through the “GRCity 311″ smart phone application. The clean-up will be followed by a Community Engagement Lunch at Broadway Bar, where volunteers will receive a complimentary lunch, gift certificates to local establishments, and an invitation to engage  in conversation with local leaders and elected officials on the future of the cities’ West Side.

 

WHEN:            The West Side Community Clean Up begins at 9 a.m, Saturday, May 19, 2012. 

Community Engagement Lunch follows immediately at 12:30 pm.     

 

                        WHERE:         Clean Up: 600 Broadway N.W. (Union Square condominiums south parking lot)   

            Lunch: 740 Broadway Ave. (Broadway Bar)

 

WHO:              Community volunteers that include downtown dwellers, and representatives from local businesses, non-profits, faith communities and public sector. 

 

WHY:              The West Side Community Clean Up is part of a larger grass roots effort to invest in local neighborhood revitalization, beautification and economic development. The group hopes to engage more than 50 volunteers in picking up 10,000 lbs of trash, doubling their 2011 impact.  The clean-up is followed by a Community Engagement Lunch at Broadway Bar, where volunteers will learn about how they can engage in other community initiatives aimed at strengthening the cities West Side.  The West Side Community Clean Up coincides with the second annual LiveWest campaign by WelcomeWest, where local businesses to offer deals to customers for supporting West Side businesses throughout the month of May.
