Mended Little Hearts of West Michigan (MLH-WM) will be celebrating Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week with a free evening of family fun on Saturday, Feb. 8 at MVP Athletic Club in Rockford, Mich. Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week runs Feb. 7-14 and is an international campaign to increase public awareness about congenital heart defects.

“We are so excited to bring together families in West Michigan for an evening of family fun as we celebrate Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week,” said Jenna Wood, lead coordinator of MLH-WM. “One in 110 babies is born with a congenital heart defect, and we are working hard to spread awareness and provide support for families currently dealing with the concerns that come along with heart defects. Events like this allow us all to have a good time while we meet other families facing similar issues.”

The event, to be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., will feature a variety of activities for people of all ages: swimming, racquetball, scavenger hunt, basketball, and arts and crafts. Event attendees are encouraged to bring their own towels if they would like to swim. Dinner will be a potluck, and all attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass as well as their own beverage.

“We couldn’t have done this without the support of MVP Athletic Club in Rockford,” Wood said. “They have given us access to their entire facility, which is the perfect place to host a family-friendly, heart-healthy event!”
