Heartside Gallery and Studio has a lot to celebrate. This Friday, September 13 from 6-9 p.m., the Gallery will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Gallery and Studio as well as the release of “An Irregular Heartbeat: The Artists of Heartside Gallery and Studio.”
“An Irregular Heartbeat: The Artists of Heartside Gallery and Studio” is a beautiful coffee table book that is the product of 20 years of Heartside love. From Heartside’s beginnings in a small basement room, the Gallery and Studio has grown immensely in 20 years. That is to the credit of the artists featured in this book.
The book release is due to the success of Heartside’s Kickstarter campaign, which earned $7,000 and financed this piece of Grand Rapids Art History. This is a 100 page hardcover book, with full color pictures that documents the faces and work of Heartside neighbors.
The book features artists portraits done by photographer Mike Cook, accompanying documentation of the artists’ dynamic work. The book was laid out by local designer Lydia VanHoven. It is a must-have for only $30 and will be available for purchase at the party. If you purchased your book from the Kickstarter, your book will be available for pick up as well.
Heartside is also featuring two new t-shirt designs by Heartside artists, which are printed locally by Joe Moon. T-shirts will be available for purchase for the low price of $12.
The party will feature the photography of Mike Cook, with portraits of the artists on display. Delicious food from Olive Garden, Vitale’s and a special birthday cake from Marge’s Donuts will be available. Photographer Elyse Wild will provide a special photo booth and Mayor Heartwell is also planning on dedicating the book at about 7 p.m. To top it off the event is free of charge!
This celebration of Heartside Gallery is one of importance to the community. Heartside has always been a fixture of positivity that allows creative expression to reach the lives of those who call Heartside home. Friday’s celebration and book dedication will pay homage to artists in one of Grand Rapids' first gallery and studios. What a great way to begin the next 20 years of creating rich and vibrant art!
