Ever wonder what's gone on in the past at the 95-year-old Masonic Temple in downtown Grand Rapids? Take a field trip with the Grand Rapids Historical Society starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 8 for a presentation billed as "The Masonic Secrets of Old Grand Rapids."
The two-hour visit at the Temple at 233 E. Fulton St. starts with a presentation by John A. Wallsteadt, a 33rd degree Mason and keeper of the historical archives and Michael C. Clark, secretary of the Masonic Temple Board of Trustees and a 32nd degree Mason.
You'll learn about the history of the Masonic Lodge, its founding and connection to a home on Reeds Lake, the Ionia Street Temple, notable area Masons and the organization's status today. Following the program will be a half-tour of the beautiful historic building.
Join us! The presentation promises to be "very, very historically cool!" If you get a chance, arrive a bit early and check out the building's basement. It's the lodge's library and museum where there are bunches of old pictures of buildings and artifacts of Grand Rapids.
"The Masonic Secrets of Old Grand Rapids" is free and open to the public.
