The sun has unleashed its full summer fury which has been pretty awesome. The heat, the swelter, the humidity, isn’t it lovely? This is what we Michigander long for during each and every one of those knee knocking winter months! Here’s a cheers for lovin’ it up!

FRIDAY!
Friday is Art Night! Willie Jones makes sweet ass detailed drawings of cars, a bit of nature and everything is totally Willie -distinct. Head over to the (106) Gallery. His show “Willies Garage” opens from 6-9pm when you can meet the man himself. While the event is free, you will have a pretty good selection of works of less then $20, out the door.

The Litribune Headquarters Barn is having a show-down-shin-dig gathering from 8 till the sun is way past set. With some random possible performances, some good company this is a great time to get to know the Litrabune crew. Oh AND they will be naming the barn so come with your creativity juices flowing.

Butoh inspired performance of “Broken Flowers” choreographed by Rachel Finan, on the steps of the GRAM at 8pm. I think I have seen a variation of this performance and it was pretty awesome making this another great time to visit the GRAM, Starts at 8pm!

Ohhhh Corey’s Rock Band Lessons Summer Concert at the Clique should be a rad time for kids and a-dults alike. From 8-11 you can catch 5 kiddie rockers (starting at age 7-16) whose jams are “for real!” The perfect late night out for your favorite 10 year old groupie!
Cost: Bring 5 bones just to be safe

Friday at the DAAC wear your whities and bring a sharpie cause yer gonna get decorated. Show starts at 9pm. Entertainment line up includes Couture Tape Co-Operative, Action Figures, dante Cope, showcasing new music by Janelle Monae, Bruno Mars, Cee-lo Green,

This week I had the distinct pleasure of creating the most schizophrenic playlist of all time with the gents from Charles the Osprey. The mix is loaded on their website and it is a pretty massive mash up. Check it here. While on air there was a mention of a show at Jukes on Friday featuring Charles the Osprety along with Seth Thompson, Heavier Than Air Flying Machines and the Wonder Caverns at Jukes on Friday. Show starts at 9:30

SATURDAY
Going to Bikestock? Riding your bike? How awesome will it be when a hundred or so peeps show up on two wheels? The ride TO Bikestock kicks off in the 106 South Division parking lot at 11am. Riders can mount up and roll down tribe style.

Cost: Free!
Bikestock kicks off at noon and features the triple threat. Bands, Food and Beer with a fine layer of biking induced sweat over all of it. The event is based around bike safety and advocating for a safer more bike friendly GR. The performance line up includes Flying Without Wingz w/ SuperDre, Ghost Heart, Bangups, Simien the Whale, AB and Coconut Brown and Mustard Plug. Sprinkled in between bands will be a pretty note worthy line up of guest speakers form the city, Parks, County and some rad local orgs.

There is an all day pop punk show starting in the early afternoon Saturday at Mixtape (starts at 2:30). Featuring Patent Pending, The City Walk, We Say Sunrise, Way To Fall, Midwest Skies, Tony Oleck & Sidney Anderson. All Ages all the time!

I don’t know what a Hafla is BUT I do know that The Mayne Studio Summer is hosting an event with a bunch of different performances including, Oriental, Fusion, Bollywood and they are holding it at the Latvian Hall (this is truly fantastic cause all halls need more dancing!)

SUNDAY!
I have wanted to check this out for a while… the Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra performs live at Founders the first and 3rd Sundays of the month. Um, a 16 piece big band jazz ensemble and the Founders Deck? Yes Please! Starts at 530 goes to 7u:30 Location 235 Grandville Ave

TUESDAY!
Tuesday night we want to climb into your brain and rattle around a bit…..the Avenue for the Arts Market is having a focus group to find out what radness you would like to see at the August and September Markets. So bring your best ideas and let us know what you are yearning for… did I mention we are going to buy some dinner to keep the brain juices flowing?
