This dispatch was added by one of our Nonprofit Neighbors. It does not represent the editorial voice of The Rapidian or Community Media Center.

Ruth Funderburk moved to Grand Rapids 30 years ago. In her search for a home, she had to work to have her realtor understand what kind of neighborhood she wanted to live in.

We build community when we share our stories - whether they be a memory, an experience or just simply telling what we think is great about this place. STORY MATTERS. is a story collecting project from The Rapidian and GRTV.

The Rapidian's story fort made an appearance at Local First's annual Street Party in downtown Grand Rapids on Saturday, June 7. Ruth Funderburk was volunteering at the event and took a few minutes to sit down with us and tell us about her experiences moving to Grand Rapids and searching for a home. After being shown many homes in the suburbs, she found the home of her dreams in Heritage Hill- but had to fight to convince her realtor that's what she really wanted.
