On Tuesday, October 7 crowds gathered at 427 Bridge Street for the announcement of a new development initiated by Rockford Construction.

The corner of Bridge Street and Broadway will be the site for New Holland Brewing Company, an estimated 17 million dollar project that will include residential and retail space. Half of the space will house New Holland, which approximates a generation of up to 150 new jobs. It will include a distillery tasting room, a brewery and a restaurant.

"This neighborhood holds a special place in my heart. I have great memories of visiting family and friends here while growing up. We're thrilled to be a part of enriching this neighborhood," says New Holland President and Co-founder Brett VanderKamp.

The multi-purpose construction project is part of Rockford Construction's efforts to invest in the revitalization of the West Side.

"I grew up here, went to high school here and our company's new headquarters are a quarter of a mile away from here. I'm honored that our company is playing such a vital role in rejuvenating the lower West Side," says Rockford Costruction CEO Mike VanGessel.

The announcement was made by Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell.

"Today's announcement is another example of investing in the community as Grand Rapids' growth continues," says Heartwell. "We look forward to having New Holland Brewing Company as a business here."

The project will commence with the demolition of current buildings in March 2015 and the New Holland phase is set to be complete by late that year or early 2016. The other half of the development is expected to be finished by April 2016.
