This Saturday, the streets surrounding 68 Commerce Ave SW will fill with people, beer and musical festivities as the Pyramid Scheme launches its first annual T-Rex Fest. The venue is hoping to reach the festival’s capacity of 3,500 people with an eclectic mix of live outdoor music and a bountiful selection of craft beer provided by Shorts Brewing Company.
Not only will Shorts Brewing Company be providing a variety of beer at the event, they will also be taking over 15 tap handles at the bar when the venue opens at 10:00 p.m. Included in the lineup will be a beer specially brewed for the occasion, an India Cream Ale dubbed "T Rex Ale."
The lineup of bands- a mix of Michigan and national artists- spans a wide spectrum of tastes and genres. The venue manager, Nicole LaRae Leach, stresses, “The lineup is silly to serious, folk to hip hop, new artists to veterans, representing what one might expect to see any other time of the year inside [the Pyramid Scheme]. We strive to be diverse with our booking.”
Attendees who want to catch the full spectrum of acts that T-Rex Fest has to offer are recommended to arrive at 2:00 p.m. when the gates open. The music kicks off at 2:30 p.m. with Leslie & The LYs, a frenetically bizarre and hilarious group that defies all genrefication. They are predicted to be well attended, as their Grand Rapids fan base is quite strong.
