I participated in the most recent of these workshops, referred to as COAST (Community Organizing and Advocacy Strategies Training), in July 2018. This program brought people of different backgrounds together to learn the ways to find and solve disability-related community issues.
This summer children at the Cook Library and Cook Arts Centers participated in day camps designed around S.T.E.A.M. subjects: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.
Racism, socio-economic inequities and gender based violence are part of the lived experiences of Black men and youth in the Grand Rapids community. To address the generational trauma and post traumatic stress disorder affecting these men -- a wrap around services and culture of belonging is needed.

Dave Battjes is a husband, dad, creative letterer, nature enthusiast and avid high fiver. Battjes’ creative practice, a never ending study of letters, has him creating large-scale murals and gorgeously crafted messages of positivity.
UICA is proud to welcome the newest member of our team, Exhibitions Curator, Juana Williams. Williams comes to us from Detroit, MI, where she most recently worked as Assistant to the Chair at Wayne State University Department of Art and Art History.
