Grand Rapids Maker Faire is back for a third year! The 3rd annual Grand Rapids Mini Maker Faire will be held August 20 and 21, at the Grand Rapids Public Museum and Grand Valley State University’s John C. Kennedy Hall of Engineering.
Maker Faire combines the traditional science fair with innovation and engineering capitalizing on the Maker movement for something entirely new. Featuring both established and emerging local makers, the Grand Rapids Mini Maker Faire is a family-friendly celebration featuring robotics, DIY science and technology, sustainability and alternative energy, bicycles, unique hand-made crafts, local food and educational installations. Visitors will see installations from the GR Makers, the Geek Group and other local West Michigan inventors, innovators and tinkerers.
The Grand Rapids Maker Faire is looking for more artists, inventors, scientists, woodworkers, designers and more to participate in this years’ event. The call for makers is now open through July 22. Any groups or individuals interested in participating should complete the application at makerfairegr.com. Makers and creators will be listed and featured on makerfairegr.com throughout the summer.
“Since the first Maker Faire, GR Makers has had the opportunity to participate in the event planning and showcasing everything GR Makers has to offer to West Michigan. Each year we are excited to meet likeminded people from the maker community and are inspired by the many interesting things people are creating!” said Mark Van Holstyn from GR Makers.
“We are excited to be offering this unique event to the community for a third year,” said Kate Moore, Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations for the Grand Rapids Public Museum. “As a growing movement, we are expecting more than 150 makers this year and thousands of visitors to our two-day event.”
The Faire will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 20 and from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 21. Tickets are currently on sale and are available at GRPM.org. Follow the development of the Grand Rapids Maker Faire on Twitter and its Facebook page.
