Movies in the Park to screen '80s action flick "Top Gun"

Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. will present the fifth movie in its "Films Through Time" series this Friday. Activities begin at 7 p.m.; screening starts at dusk.

Guests can look forward to a special surprise before the movie. DGRI is not telling so you'll have to show up to find out what it is!

On Friday, August 8, Movies in the Park will be be showing "Top Gun," the '80s action adventure film starring Tom Cruise. 

Activities begin at 7 p.m. on the lawn of Ah-Nab-Awen Park in Downtown Grand Rapids. 

ABisAdrianButler will be performing live music from the '80s including top hits from the Top Gun soundtrack.

Other activities include drop-in volleyball and lessons from Carpe Diem Volleyball, a playgrounds set up for kids, Ice Guru Randy Finch will perform a live ice carving, movie goers are eligible to win a $100 gift card from Founders Brewing, Voters Choice film for August 22 will be announced and there will be an appearance from Grand Rapids' own Maverick and Goose. At 9 p.m. guests can look forward to a special surprise.

Attendees can bring lawn chairs, blankets, food and drink. The event is free and open to the public. 

Ah-Nab-Awen Park is located at 220 Front Avenue NW between the Gerald R. Ford Museum and the Grand River.
