Grand Rapids Public Museum celebrates rare eclipse with special party

For those not traveling to the path of totality, visit the museum to experience the partial eclipse we will witness in Michigan, along with various hands-on activities, live streaming of the total eclipse and more between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on August 21, 2017.

The Grand Rapids Public Museum is hosting a special Eclipse Day Party on August 21 to celebrate the total eclipse that will span the continental United States. For those not traveling to the path of totality, visit the museum to experience the partial eclipse we will witness in Michigan, along with various hands-on activities, live streaming of the total eclipse and more between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

On August 21, the continental U.S. will see a total eclipse spanning from Oregon to South Carolina, with a partial eclipse taking place in Michigan.

The Eclipse Day will include hands-on solar related activity booths, multiple shows on the half hour of “Eclipses and Phases of the Moon” in the Chaffee Planetarium, and a live stream of the total eclipse will be shown in the Meijer Theater. Hands on activities for the day will include making solar system bracelets, decorating personal eclipse shades, designing and building space craft, making eclipse projectors and more!

Activities as part of the Eclipse Party will be included with general admission to the Museum. Activities will take place outside, weather permitting. Visitors attending the Grand Rapids Maker Faire on August 19 and 20, will receive free admission to the Eclipse Day Party by wearing their event wristband!  

The Grand Rapids Maker Faire takes place Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20 downtown at the Grand Rapids Public Museum and next door at GVSU’s College of Engineering Building. Maker Faire is a family-friendly celebration featuring tech enthusiasts, crafters, hobbyists, engineers, artists, and commercial exhibitors. Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, visitors will be hands-on with more than 100 maker booths and can drive robots, be a part of an iron pour, test renewable energy sources, see 3D printing and more!
