The Better Body Image Conference aims to shape and redefine the concept of self and foster a positive body image by incorporating diverse definitions of beauty, cultivating positive speech around the body, and fostering self-compassion. The conference is scheduled for March 11th, noon to 6pm at Wealthy Theatre and is free to attend. International filmmaker Elena Rossini will open with the keynote address, followed by interactive workshops led by local businesses that work closely with body image, concluding with a movie showing of The Illusionists documentary and a panel discussion comprised of local experts.
This inaugural conference seeks to attract anyone in the West Michigan community who has struggled with their relationship to their own body. This conference exists to offer a space in Grand Rapids to discuss struggles with body image and to examine the impact of media and culture on our relationships with our bodies. People who attend the conference will leave with resources and connections, locally and nationally, on what they can do personally, in their families and in the West Michigan community to truly make a change in the way beauty is defined for ourselves and others.
Both the keynote speaker and movie showing with panel discussion are free to attend and open to all. The workshops cost $15 each or 2 for $20.
