In this week’s segment of GRTV’s NPO Showcase, Marcel Price, AKA Fable the Poet, talks about his work as Grand Rapid's Poet Laureate, a three-year tenure which began this spring.
As Poet Laureate, Price is an ambassador of poetry in the city and beyond. He hopes to connect the community to the city's vibrant poetry scene by lifting up area creatives and promoting the poetry events happening regularly in the area. Price also uses his platform to bring awareness to issues such as mental health and suicide by partnering with organizations including the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan.
Price is making a huge effort in lifting up area youth, and engaging them with poetry and creative writing. In the first six months as Poet Laureate, Price has initiated a scholarship program for young creatives, and worked with thousands of students through area schools and ArtPrize. He's also spearheaded a number of fundraising events for the causes and organizations he champions. Among other goals, Price hopes to launch a youth center focused on poetry and writing. To learn more about the 'Mind of Fable' check out his book and recently released album which fuses poetry, music and message.
