On Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Brewery Vivant and The Spoke Folks will host Kickstand Kickoff, a festive event featuring family friendly games, demonstrations, live music and beer. What better way to kick off the Grand Rapids cycling season and bring people together than a shared love for a strong bicycle community and presence?
This event will take place in front of The Spoke Folks, located at 221 Logan Street SW, Grand Rapids, Michigan. The entire southwest side of Logan Street will be blocked off for the event and the space will be filled with kid and adult-friendly games throughout the day's event.
Activities will include an obstacle courses, how to ride in the road demonstration, bicycle polo, a dunk tank, chalk zone and much more. Live music will include local blues rock musician Jim Shaneberger, singer/songwriter Stacy Feyer-Salo, and hip-hop artist DJBumblebee AKA Jr. Slugwell. Tommy Allen, lifestyle editor for Rapid Growth Media, will be stage host for the event.
Cure those hunger pangs with Duba and Company and Woking Taco. They will be available throughout the day, as well as concession snacks to munch on. Beer will be provided by Brewery Vivant and New Belgium Brewery, with a variety of delicious beers on tap.
A 2014 Belgium Fat Tire Cruiser will be hanging at Brewery Vivant and will feature the Spoke Nipple Guessing Game. The objective is to correctly guess the number of spoke nipples in a container hanging from the bicycle. Those who choose to play can make as many guesses as they please, at $5 per guess. The person closest to the number, wins the bike! Make your guess today or on May 3 at the event by 4 p.m.
This event is volunteer powered and all proceeds will be given to The Spoke Folks. The shop and this event are graciously supported by Brewery Vivant, Citizenshirt, Bitmanic, New Belgium, Screaming Gnat, Duba and Company, Woking Tacos, Lantern Coffee Bar and Lounge, The Other Way Ministries, Orgnicycle and the Greater Grand Rapids Bicycle Coalition.
