GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN (AUGUST, 2012) Gerontology Network was nominated by Toyota for the opportunity to win a new vehicle through their 100 Cars for Good program and on August 21st they will compete against four other non-profit organizations for the chance to be awarded a new Toyota Sienna Mobility van. Now they just need the help of West Michigan residents to receive the most votes.

For 100 days, beginning May 14th and ending August 21st five organizations have been competing via 100carsforgood.com to win a Toyota of their choice. The organization with the most votes each day will be awarded the vehicle they need. Gerontology Network will compete against four other non-profit organizations to win their choice, a Toyota Sienna Mobility van, on August 21st from 10:00am to 11:59pm.

Providing transportation to older adults is an important part of how Gerontology Network helps the community. The organization drives older adult volunteers to area schools where they mentor and tutor at-risk students. They provide rides for their clients with mental health issues to medical appointments. And for seniors who may be homebound or have dementia, they provide transportation to outings and community activities.

“You don’t realize the freedom and independence you have when you drive until it’s no longer an option,” said Jennifer Feuerstein, Director of Marketing, Communications and Development.

“It’s important when the life-altering decision is made to give up driving or when keys are taken away from seniors that they’re still connected to the community,” said Feuerstein “at Gerontology Network we ensure seniors maintain their physical, emotional and social well-being, even if they trade in one set of wheels for another with wheelchairs and walkers.”

West Michigan residents are encouraged to support Gerontology Network and older adults in the community by voting for the organization and sharing the event with others. Voting takes place at 100carsforgood.com on August 21st 10am-11:59pm and by visiting the website and searching for 'Gerontology Network' community members can recieve a reminder on the day of voting. The organization that earns the most votes each day will be awarded a new vehicle. The winner will be announces the day after voting.
